Provisional November GCSE and Level 1/Level 2 Certificates Entries for Wales 2017

An annual report which presents provisional data on November GCSE and Level 1/Level 2 Certificates Entries 2017 for Wales.

Key Points

  • There were 54,845 entries for GCSEs in Wales in November, which is 4.5 per cent fewer compared to Ofqual reported figures for November 2016.
  • There were 50,190 total GCSE entries from students in Year 11 in November 2017. This made up 91.5 per cent of total entries, which is a higher proportion compared to Ofqual reported figures for November 2016 where 89.4 per cent of total entries were from Year 11 students.
  • Total entries for reformed GCSE Mathematics decreased in November 2017 by 1.7 per cent compared to Ofqual reported figures for November 2016. Reformed GCSE Mathematics – Numeracy saw a larger decrease of 32.4 per cent.
  • This is the first year in which data has been collected by Qualifications Wales. Previous years’ data including 2016 were collected by Ofqual.
