Exam questions? Answers on a postcard pleaseThursday 24 May 2018
More than 430,000 postcards will be distributed across Wales this week, using simple language to explain the grading system, how the Welsh Baccalaureate works as well as key changes to GCSE Science and the two new GCSE Maths exams.
The aim is for schools to pass the postcards onto the parents of pupils for Years 9-11 to make it easier to understand the changes and the reasons for them. There are plans for more guides to help schools, learners and parents in future including a new set of videos due for release later this summer.
“Qualifications are changing, and it’s important that everyone is fully up to speed with what that means for our children,” said Qualifications Wales Chief Executive Philip Blaker. “We know people have questions and we also appreciate that qualifications can appear complicated. The idea is that these postcards offer handy, basic information for parents and pupils, with more detailed information available on our website.”
The postcards have been produced in both Welsh and English and are available at the Qualifications Wales stand during next week’s Urdd National Eisteddfod in Builth Wells. Digital versions can also be downloaded from the Qualifications Wales website.
