Teacher discussions on Non-Examination Assessment (NEA) Phase 2
We are inviting teachers to participate in a series of focus group discussions about their perceptions and experiences of Non-Examination Assessment (NEA) in GCSEs. NEA refers to any type of assessment that is not an exam taken by all candidates at the same time. NEA therefore covers a range of assessment activities including coursework, oral assessment, fieldwork, portfolio work and practical assessment.
Each focus group will discuss teacher perceptions and experiences of:
- The role of NEA in GCSE assessments
- Delivering NEA
- Assessing NEA
- Resources and guidance relating to NEA
- Teacher training in NEA
At the end of each focus group there will be an opportunity for participants to suggest how NEA could be developed in the future to support the new curriculum.
We will host focus groups at five different locations across Wales. We anticipate that there will be around 12 participants in each group. We want to hear from teachers with experience of NEA in one or more of the GCSE subjects listed below. Please note that French, German and Spanish will be discussed together in the Modern Foreign Languages session. All other subjects will be discussed individually. There will be light refreshments and an opportunity to network with other teachers at each session.
We intend to use the findings from this research to shape the future design and development of qualifications, for example when looking at how qualifications can support the new curriculum for Wales. We have already completed a number of focus groups in ten GCSE subjects and the findings from these groups have been invaluable in informing our understanding of how teachers view NEA in their subject. The findings from this first phase of the research will be available in early 2020.
If you would like to contribute your views in one of these focus groups, please select an event from the list below. Spaces are limited so please only sign up once you have confirmed you will be able to attend. We also request that no more than two teachers per subject attend from each school.
If you sign up and are then unable to attend, please cancel your booking through EventBrite to give someone else a chance to take part.
If you would like to contribute to this research but are unable to attend one of these focus groups, please contact research@qualificationswales.org
