Qualifications Wales welcomes announcement of new bilingual educational resources company

Qualifications Wales welcomes the establishment of a new bilingual educational resources company, as announced by Education and Welsh Language Minister Jeremy Miles today (Thursday 3 March).

Welsh Government has revealed plans to set up a new company committed to providing Cymraeg and bilingual language resources, which will be fully operational by April 2023 to support the new Curriculum for Wales.

Emyr George, Director of Qualifications Policy and Reform, said: “It’s great news that there will be a dedicated body to ensure the availability of new resources in Cymraeg and bilingually. This is a significant issue that we are reviewing with teachers as part of our Qualified for the future programme of work.

“The new body will be established at a crucial time for us, as we expect to be finalising the design of new ‘made for Wales’ GCSEs next spring, following months of work with teachers, learners, employers, and others and gathering feedback on the new-look qualifications.

“Early planning and joined up working across the country is essential to making sure learners and teachers have access to high-quality and bilingual resources before courses start; this was a key lesson we learned from our previous GCSE reform work

“We look forward to working with the new body to ensure learners preparing for new qualifications will have access to relevant, engaging, and bilingual resources that will help them make the most of the Curriculum for Wales.”
