Key Points:
- 310 penalties were issued to students in summer 2023, up 31.9% from 2022.
- In 2023, approximately one penalty was issued for every 3,500 entries.
- Mobile phones continue to be the most common reason for a penalty to be issued. 42.3% of penalties in 2023 were issued due to students taking a mobile phone into the exam room.
- 15 penalties were issued to centre staff for malpractice, and fewer than five penalties were issued to centres.
